You there, the one taking a picture of your burger at Little Bird or your ramen at Boke Bowl. Yes you! You wouldn’t be doing that if it weren’t for James Beard, the gay Portland food icon who literally started the foodie scene waaaaaay back in the 40s. He was the first chef to have a cooking show, which led to Julia Child, which led to Saturday’s full of cooking shows on PBS, which led to Food Network and Top Chef, which led to you sharing pictures of your food on social media.
