49. Dive Into Queer History and Culture at the Q Center Library

QClibraryThe Q Center is a great resource for Portland and the entire Pacific Northwest, but what continually impresses me upon each visit is the Kendall Clawson Library.  It is a rich, diverse and ever-growing collection of books by, for and about LGBTers.

Named for former executive director Kendall Clawson, the library was spearheaded a few years ago by local librarian/hero Ismoon Hunter-Morton and she has fostered it into the living and evolving resource that it is.  In addition to the general circulating collection of over a thousand fiction and nonfiction titles, the library is also home to one of the largest collections of trans-specific titles (searchable online).  The library is becoming a destination for both community members and researchers

Next time you are at the Q Center, drop in the library and learn something new.  Maybe volunteer–the organizing parties are a blast.  Or contribute to the library wish list.  The place is a wonderful literary oasis!
